How do I submit my Webflow sitemap to Search Console?
Generate sitemap.xml in Webflow, publish, verify the domain, then submit sitemap.xml in Google Search Console.
Turn on Auto-generate sitemap under Site settings, SEO, Sitemap, then save and publish. Webflow serves sitemap.xml and adds it to robots.txt. In Google Search Console, open the verified property, type sitemap.xml, and click Submit. Verification uses the HTML tag method: paste the ID into Webflow's Google site verification field and publish before you click Verify. Republish after page changes so sitemap timestamps update.
Generate sitemap.xml and publish
Webflow can build sitemap.xml for you and refresh it each time you publish. Open Site settings, then the SEO tab, then the Sitemap section. Turn Auto-generate sitemap to Yes, save, and publish the site. After that publish, the file is available at your domain followed by /sitemap.xml. Webflow also adds that address to robots.txt. Do not paste the same sitemap line into robots.txt yourself, or the file will list two sitemaps.
You cannot delete the /sitemap.xml path after you have created a sitemap and published. If you later switch to your own file, turn Auto-generate sitemap to No, paste the custom sitemap into the custom field, save, and publish again.
Each URL in the auto-generated sitemap includes the date and time that page was last published. That timestamp updates when you publish changes to the page, and you need another publish before the new time shows in the file. For sites with Localize enabled, the auto-generated sitemap also includes hreflang tags for static and dynamic pages.
For example: you rename a service page and publish on Tuesday. Open https://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml and confirm the new path is listed. If the old path must keep working for existing links, add a 301 redirect in the same release. The sitemap lists current URLs. It does not replace redirects.
Verify the domain in Search Console
Search Console accepts a sitemap for a property you can access. Webflow's verification guide uses an HTML tag. In Search Console, add a URL prefix property for the live address, including https://, such as https://www.yourdomain.com. Choose HTML tag under other verification methods, and copy only the verification ID inside the content quotes. Leave that window open.
In another tab, open the site from the Webflow Dashboard, choose Settings, and go to the SEO tab. Paste the ID into Google site verification, save, and publish. Return to Search Console and click Verify. You only need to verify once. If you closed the window, add the same URL prefix again, choose HTML tag, and click Verify.
Use the host people should land on. If the default domain includes www, verify https://www.yourdomain.com, not the bare domain and not the webflow.io staging host.
Submit sitemap.xml
Open Search Console and choose that property. Type sitemap.xml into the sitemap field and click Submit. You do not need to paste the full URL when you are inside the correct property. Google may already discover the site from links on other sites. Verifying the property and submitting the sitemap is still the step Webflow documents for telling Google where the page list is.
If you keep both www and non-www versions, submit the sitemap on the property that matches the default domain. A sitemap for the wrong host points Google at URLs you do not treat as primary.
Recheck the live file after the next publish
A sitemap submission is not a file you maintain by hand in Search Console. The next publish rewrites the auto-generated list. After a launch, a rename, or a batch of new CMS items, open the live sitemap and confirm the important URLs are present.
Pages with sitemap indexing turned off are left out of this file. That switch is separate from the title and meta description on the page. If Search Console cannot fetch the sitemap, open the live file in a browser first. A failed publish, or a property that does not match the published domain, will fail before Google can read the list.
Questions & answers
Do I paste the full sitemap URL into Search Console?
Inside the correct property, type sitemap.xml and click Submit. Choose the property that matches the domain you publish, including www if that is your default.
What if the domain was verified before it moved to Webflow?
You do not need to verify again, but add the existing verification ID in Site settings, SEO, Google site verification, then publish. Otherwise Google may stop detecting the ID.
Can I write my own sitemap instead?
Yes. Turn Auto-generate sitemap off, paste your sitemap into the custom sitemap field, save, and publish. Do not also leave Webflow's automatic sitemap line in robots.txt, or crawlers will see two sitemaps.
Does submitting the sitemap update titles and descriptions?
No. The sitemap lists URLs. Title tags and meta descriptions are page settings. Submit the sitemap after those pages are published so the list matches the live site.
