How do I publish a Webflow site?
Publish to staging or a custom domain, use single-page publish when available, and avoid pushing unfinished work live.
Open Publish from Site actions or Site settings, check the domains you want, then click Publish to selected domains. Use the webflow.io staging subdomain to preview without updating production. On Team and Enterprise plans, you can publish one static or Collection page after a prior full-site publish. Unpublish from Site settings or from the publish menu per domain.
Publish to the right domain
Publishing pushes Designer changes to the web. Every site has a staging subdomain such as yoursite.webflow.io. With a Site plan you can also publish to a verified custom domain. The publish menu lets you choose either or both, so check the boxes carefully before you confirm.
From Site actions or Site settings:
- Click Publish.
- Check the domain or domains you want.
- Click Publish to selected domains.
Keyboard shortcut: Shift + P opens the publish menu, then Shift + Enter publishes to the selected domains. Before a custom domain can receive a publish, you must verify ownership of that domain.
Use staging before production
To test custom code, layout, or approvals without updating the live brand domain, publish only to staging. Open Publish, check the webflow.io subdomain, uncheck the custom domain, then publish. You can rename the staging subdomain under Site settings > Publishing > Staging. Changing it also replaces older read-only links.
Enterprise workspaces can use a publishing workflow with Designer, Staging, and Production steps and a pre-publish summary of tracked site changes. That workflow is limited to Enterprise customers and partners. Everyone else still gets the standard publish menu described above.
Publish one page when the plan allows
On Team and Enterprise Platform plans, single-page publishing lets you ship one static page or Collection template without a full-site publish. The site must already have been published once with a full-site publish, and your role needs Can publish.
Open the page, click Publish, choose This page (or This CMS template for Collection pages), review the summary, then publish to staging or to all domains. A single-page publish includes that page's content, design, page-level settings, Optimize variations, and secondary-locale instances that are not in draft. It does not include CMS item data, fonts, site-wide custom code, or 301 redirects. Those still need a Collection item publish or a full-site publish.
If global styles, components, variables, or interactions changed since the last full-site publish, the summary flags them. Only the page you publish reflects those global changes until you publish other pages or run a full-site publish.
Unpublish and common limits
To unpublish every domain, go to Site settings and use the Unpublish icon. To leave one domain live, open Publish and click Unpublish next to that domain. If the site is on Made in Webflow, you cannot unpublish the staging domain until you remove it from Made in Webflow.
Single-page publish has no rollback, no per-page unpublish, no scheduled single-page publish, and it only runs on the main branch. Only one publish can run at a time. After any publish path, spot-check the live URL on mobile and desktop so unfinished Designer work did not slip onto production. Keep a short note of who published, which domains were checked, and what changed, so the next update starts from a known live state.
Questions & answers
Can I publish only to staging first?
Yes. Open Publish, check only your webflow.io staging subdomain, leave the custom domain unchecked, then publish. Review staging before you publish to production.
Who is allowed to publish the site?
On most plans, site managers and teammates with Can publish turned on can publish. Reviewers cannot. Enterprise roles can limit staging versus production publishing.
When can I publish a single page?
Single-page publishing needs a Team or Enterprise Platform plan, a prior full-site publish, and Can publish permission. Open the page, click Publish, choose This page (or This CMS template), then pick staging or all domains.
Does single-page publish update CMS item content?
No. It publishes that page's design and page-level settings. CMS item data still needs a Collection item publish or a full-site publish.
