Webflow troubleshooting

Why is my Webflow form not submitting?

Separate a failed submit from a missing email, then check buttons, required fields, reCAPTCHA, and notification settings.

THE SHORT ANSWER

When a Webflow form fails to submit, test on the published site and check Site settings > Forms. If no submission appears, confirm a Submit button, visible required fields, no custom form action, and a reCAPTCHA element on every form if reCAPTCHA validation is enabled site-wide. If the submission appears but email does not, check notification settings and spam filtering.

Separate a failed submit from a missing email

A form problem is usually one of two things. Either Webflow never received the submission, or Webflow received it and the notification email did not arrive. Treat those as different investigations.

Publish the live site first, then send a clearly marked test submission. Open Site settings > Forms and look for that test. If it is missing, fix the submit path. If it is present, leave the Designer alone for a moment and focus on notification settings and email delivery.

Confirm the form can reach Webflow

Start with the checks Webflow lists when a submission never appears:

  • Use a Submit button, not a regular button.
  • Keep every required field visible in the Navigator. A hidden required field can block the submit.
  • Do not use a custom form action if you want Webflow to process the submission and send notifications.
  • If reCAPTCHA validation is enabled under Site settings > Apps & Integrations, every form on the site needs a reCAPTCHA element.

Custom form actions send data elsewhere. In that case Webflow will not store the submission or send its notification emails. Prefer Webflow under Send to when you want Webflow processing.

Fix site-wide reCAPTCHA mistakes

Enabling reCAPTCHA validation turns validation on for all forms immediately after you save, even before a republish. Forms without a reCAPTCHA element then fail to submit. Add the element to each form before you enable validation, then publish and test on the live site.

If the widget shows an invalid site key or domain error, confirm the Google reCAPTCHA v2 keys and registered domains in Site settings. Keys are case-sensitive, and custom domains plus the webflow.io subdomain usually need to be registered.

When submissions appear but email does not

Open the form settings and confirm Email Notifications is enabled with the correct To addresses. Apply changes and republish before testing again. Prefer a name-based address such as jane@yourdomain.com. Role-based addresses like info@, admin@, or support@ are more likely to be filtered.

Check spam or junk folders. Add Webflow's form notification senders to your safe list when your provider supports that. On the free Starter Site plan, remember the lifetime limit of 50 form submissions; once that limit is reached, new submissions are no longer collected until you upgrade the Site plan.

Turn the fix into a repeatable check

For example: Page: /contact. Problem: submit shows no success state on mobile. Expected result: a visible success message and a row in Site settings > Forms within a minute. Evidence: device, browser, test time, and whether Email Notifications was expected.

Keep this check in your monthly review so a Designer change or a new form does not silently break lead capture. If form issues keep returning alongside other site work, a written membership request can keep one person familiar with the forms and the notification setup.

Questions & answers

How do I know if the form submitted to Webflow at all?

Publish the site, submit a clearly marked test, then open Site settings > Forms. If the test is listed, Webflow received it. If it is not, the form never completed a successful submit.

Can a regular button submit a Webflow form?

No. The form needs a Submit button. A regular button does not submit the form to Webflow.

Why does enabling reCAPTCHA break other forms?

Site-wide reCAPTCHA validation applies to every form. Any form without a reCAPTCHA element will fail to submit once validation is on, even before you republish.

Why do submissions appear in Webflow but I get no email?

The form reached Webflow, so the issue is notification delivery. Check recipients, spam or junk folders, role-based addresses, and whether a custom form action bypasses Webflow processing.
