How do I organize Webflow pages into folders?
Group static pages in a folder so the URL shows that group, and redirect the old path if the page was already live.
Create a folder from the Pages panel and set its slug. Only static pages can live in a folder. Drag a page into the folder, or choose that folder as the parent in Page settings. The public path becomes the folder slug plus the page slug, such as /legal/terms. If that page was already published, the old URL returns a 404 until you add a 301 redirect and publish again.
Create a folder for one group of static pages
Folders, also called directories, group static pages that belong together and put that group in the URL. Webflow's example is a Legal folder that holds a terms page, so the address looks like www.yoursite.com/legal/terms-of-service. Only static pages can be organized in folders. Utility pages such as the 404 keep their own reserved slugs.
Open the Pages panel and click the Create new folder icon. Type a name. You can also set a custom slug, choose a parent folder, or add a password if you have a Site plan. Click Create. The slug is the part that appears in the URL. Name the folder Legal if you want, and set the slug to legal so the path stays short.
You can nest folders when the site has a deeper hierarchy. A parent folder of resources and a child folder of guides can produce /resources/guides/launch-checklist. Set the parent in the folder settings, or drag the child folder onto the parent in the page list. A blue highlight means the drop will land inside that folder.
Move a page into the folder
Add a page to the folder in either of two ways. Drag it onto the folder in the Pages panel. Or open the page settings and choose the folder under Parent folder. To take a page back out, drag it outside the folder, or set Parent folder to None.
Example: the terms page currently lives at /terms. You create a folder with the slug legal and move the page in. The new path is /legal/terms. The page slug can stay terms. The folder slug is what adds the extra level.
Reordering pages in the panel only changes the list. It does not by itself create a folder URL. The parent folder is what changes the path. Collapse a folder by clicking its name when the page list gets long.
Redirect the old URL if the page was already live
Moving a published page or folder into a new parent changes the URL. The old URL then returns a 404. Bookmarks, search results, and links elsewhere still use the old address until you add a 301.
Open Site settings, Publishing, 301 redirects. Enter the old path, such as /terms, and the new path, such as /legal/terms. Click Add redirect path, then publish. Test the old URL in a new browser tab. It should open the new page.
If you moved a whole folder, one wildcard can cover the pages inside it. Use /old-folder/(.*) as the old path and /new-folder/%1 as the new path. Add a specific page rule before a broad wildcard if both exist. Webflow tries older redirects first, so an earlier wildcard can catch the address before the specific rule runs.
A paid Site plan, or a site in a Workspace with a paid Workspace plan, is required before you can add 301 redirects. To redirect a static page that still uses the old path, change its slug, save it as a draft, or delete it before you add the rule. If you change the page slug itself in Page settings, you can check Permanently redirect the old URL to this new one. Webflow then creates a 301 you can review in the same list. After you move a page into a folder, add the 301 described above so the previous path does not 404.
301 redirects are relative to the root domain. They do not cover a localized subdirectory. /terms and /es/terms need two rules.
Keep the slug valid
Webflow page slugs only support lowercase Latin letters (a to z) and numbers (0 to 9). Uppercase characters are converted to lowercase. Special characters such as an exclamation mark, ampersand, or period are removed. Non-Latin characters are converted to a Latin reading. Webflow's example is that "분홍색" becomes "bunhongsaeg".
These slugs cannot be used for any page URL: images, css, js, index, manifest, and static-manifest. The index rule also applies to nested slugs, so /blog/index is not valid. A folder also cannot use the same URL as a Collection. If a Collection is named Project, a folder cannot use the URL Project. On a site with Ecommerce, product and category are reserved and cannot be used for a folder.
You can delete a folder only when it is empty. Move or delete the pages and nested folders first, then use the delete icon in the folder settings. Deleting a page cannot be undone except by restoring a site backup, and a deleted page that was public still needs a 301 if the old URL should keep working.
If you have a Site plan, folder settings can also password protect every page in the folder. That choice does not change the URL. Set the slug and the redirect first, then add a password only if those pages should be private.
Questions & answers
Can I drag a CMS Collection template into a folder?
No. Only static pages are organized in folders from the page list. A Collection template can still use a parent folder from its own page settings, which is a separate control.
What happens to the old URL when I move a live page?
The URL changes and the old address returns a 404. Add a 301 from the old path to the new path, then publish. Visitors and existing links then land on the new page.
Can a folder use the same slug as a Collection?
No. If a Collection already uses a URL such as project, a folder cannot use that same URL. Choose a different folder slug.
Which characters can I use in a page slug?
Webflow keeps lowercase letters a to z and numbers. Uppercase becomes lowercase, special characters are removed, and non-Latin characters are converted to a Latin reading.
