How do I change the success message on a Webflow form?
Edit the Webflow form success and error states, keep a redirect if you use one, and test the message on the live site.
Select the Form block and open the Settings panel. Edit the Success state, which is the message visitors see after a submit that goes through, and the Error state, which they see when it does not. Replace the default thank-you line with a sentence that says what happens next. Publish and submit a test on the live site. A redirect is a separate setting and does not remove this message.
Select the form and open Success
The message people see after a successful submit is the form's Success state. It is not the email your team receives, and it is not a thank-you page unless you also set a redirect.
Select the Form block on the canvas or in the Navigator. Open the Settings panel. Webflow lists three states there. Normal is the form before anyone submits. Success is the message after a submit that goes through. Error is the message when the submit does not go through.
The default success text is 'Thank you! Your submission has been received!' Replace that with a sentence a visitor can act on. Say that the note arrived, and say what happens next.
Write the success text for this form
Keep it specific to the form. A contact form can say 'Thanks. We received your message and will reply by email.' A newsletter form can say 'You are on the list.' Do not reuse one vague sentence on every form if the next step is different.
The success text sits on the form. It does not change the notification email your team gets. Set that email in the form's send settings, and give the form a name you will recognize under Site settings, Forms. New forms start as Email Form, which is hard to tell apart once you have two.
Example: the form on the contact page is named Contact page. The success state says the message was received and that a reply comes by email. The error state tells the visitor what to do if the submit fails.
Give the error state a way to reach you
The default error text is 'Oops! Something went wrong while submitting the form.' Webflow's forms article suggests adding a way to reach you, such as an email address, so a visitor is not stuck when the submit fails.
Keep the error state even if you expect every submit to work. A missing reCAPTCHA element, a hidden required field, or a custom action can stop a submit. The visitor still needs a sentence on the page. If the submit works and your inbox stays empty, that is a notification problem, not a success-message problem.
A redirect does not delete the message
You can send people to a static page or a typed URL after they submit. That setting is separate from the Success state. Keep the success message. The forms article does not say the redirect removes it. A visitor who stays on the form still needs the text.
If you use a redirect, make the destination say the same next step in plain language, and add a link back to a normal page. The form redirect guide covers how to set that path. This page only covers the message on the form.
Publish, then submit one labeled test
Designer states are not the live page. Publish the site, open the live form, and submit a test with the word test in the message so the team can ignore it. You should see the success text you wrote, or land on the redirect page if you set one.
Then open Site settings, Forms, and confirm the test is stored if the form sends to Webflow. If you see the error state instead, the submit did not finish. Check that required fields are visible in the Navigator, that the form has a submit button, and that a custom action is not bypassing Webflow when you still want Webflow to handle the form.
If the success text is still the default after you publish, you edited a different form, or the Success state was not the one you changed. Select the Form block again, open Success, and confirm the sentence before you publish once more.
If you would rather send the sentence in writing, I can change it from that note. The membership is one plan for every existing Webflow site: $999 per month, including 10 hours of Webflow work. Communication is asynchronous and written only. There are no calls or meetings.
Questions & answers
Does the success message replace the notification email?
No. The success state is the text on the page. The notification email is a separate send setting. Name the form so you can tell its submissions apart under Site settings, Forms.
Should I delete the success text if I redirect to a thank-you page?
No. Keep the success message and the error message. A redirect sends people to another page after submit. It does not remove the text for a visitor who stays on the form.
The live form still shows the default thank-you line. What should I check?
Select the Form block again and open the Success state. Confirm the sentence, publish, and submit one more test. A second form on the page may be the one you edited.
The test showed the error state instead. Where do I look?
The submit did not finish. Check Site settings, Forms, for the test. If it is missing, look for a hidden required field, a missing submit button, or a reCAPTCHA rule with no reCAPTCHA element on this form.
