How do I add Google Analytics (GA4) to Webflow?

Paste a GA4 measurement ID in Webflow Integrations, publish once, and confirm the visit in the Realtime report.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Webflow accepts a Google Analytics 4 measurement ID, not a Universal Analytics ID. In Google Analytics, create a web data stream and copy the ID that starts with G-. In Webflow, open Site settings, Integrations, Google Analytics, paste that ID, save, and publish. Use the integration or head code, not both, so you do not double-count visits. Then open the published site and check the Realtime report.

Add the measurement ID in Integrations

Webflow's Google Analytics field accepts a Google Analytics 4 measurement ID. Copy the ID from a web data stream in Google Analytics. It is case sensitive and should start with G-, GT-, AW-, or GTM-. A typical GA4 ID looks like G-AB12CD34EF. That sample is only a shape. Use the ID from your own property.

In Webflow, open Site settings, then the Integrations tab, then Google Analytics. Paste the measurement ID, click Save changes, and publish the site. The integration does not require a paid Site plan or a paid Workspace. Extra custom code elsewhere on the site does.

Webflow's integration uses Google Tag Gateway. Traffic proxied through that gateway does not count toward your site's bandwidth. You still publish after you save, or the live site keeps the old setup.

If the Integrations panel still shows a tracking ID that starts with UA-, that is Universal Analytics. Google deprecated Universal Analytics on July 1, 2023. Create a GA4 property, copy the G- ID, paste it into the Measurement ID field, save, and publish. If a G- ID is already saved, save it again and republish so collection does not gap.

Use one install, not two

Put the Google tag in one place only. Use the Integrations field, or put the tag in the site head code. Using both installs two copies and can double-count page views.

If you only need standard GA4 page tracking, the Integrations field is the simpler path. You do not need to paste Google's script by hand. If a teammate already pasted a tag into head code, remove that copy before you save the measurement ID, then publish once.

You can also connect Analytics with the Google site tools for Webflow App. That app can attach Analytics, Tag Manager, and Search Console, and it can show some metrics inside the Designer. If you use the app, still keep a single copy of the tag.

Ecommerce sites can send product events such as viewed product, added product to cart, and purchased product after the integration is on. You still need to enable Ecommerce tracking in Google Analytics 4 to receive those events. Skip that step if the site does not sell online.

Confirm the live site, not the Designer

Open the published site in a browser and click through the homepage and one inner page. In Google Analytics, open your reports and select Realtime. Your visit should appear while that tab is open.

Standard reports can lag. Insights might not be available until about a day after collection. A quiet Realtime report, after you only looked at the Designer, usually means the site was not published, the ID is in the wrong field, or the ID does not match the property you are viewing.

Check the property selector in Google Analytics before you assume Webflow failed. A correct install on the wrong property looks like no data.

Example: you paste G-AB12CD34EF into Integrations, save, and forget to publish. The Designer preview will not prove the tag is live. Publish to the custom domain, open the homepage in a second browser, and watch Realtime on the property that owns that data stream. When your own hit appears, the install is working.

Fix the mistakes that hide traffic

These checks cover the problems that show up most often after a first install:

  • The ID is missing a letter, or the case does not match Google's copy.
  • The ID still starts with UA-.
  • The same tag is in Integrations and in head code.
  • You saved in Webflow and did not publish.
  • You are watching a different GA4 property from the one that owns the data stream.
  • An ad blocker on your own browser hides your test visit. Try a private window or another browser, then look at Realtime again.

After the Realtime report shows your test visit, leave the install alone for a day before you judge campaign numbers. Page titles, the sitemap, and site speed are separate jobs. Analytics only records what the published site already sends.

Questions & answers

Do I need a paid Webflow plan to add Google Analytics?

No. The Integrations measurement ID works without a paid Site plan or a paid Workspace. Pasting extra code in the head or footer needs a Site plan or a Core, Growth, Agency, or Freelancer Workspace.

Why does the Realtime report stay empty?

Publish first, confirm the measurement ID matches the property you have open, and try a browser without an ad blocker. Standard reports can take about a day even after Realtime works.

Can I keep a UA- ID and add GA4?

Paste the GA4 measurement ID into the Measurement ID field, save, and publish. A UA- ID is Universal Analytics, which Google deprecated on July 1, 2023.

How do I tell if the tag was installed twice?

Check the Integrations field and the site head code. Keep the tag in one of those places. Two copies can double-count page views.
