How do I schedule a Webflow CMS item to publish?

Schedule a never-published Collection item for a date and time in your site time zone. A site-wide publish will not release it early.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Open a never-published Collection item, choose Schedule, set the date and time, and click Schedule. Times follow the site time zone in Site settings, General, Localization. The default is UTC. Starter and Basic Site plans cannot schedule, and the option is hidden if the item was published before. A site-wide publish does not release scheduled items. Only queued items, or items not explicitly scheduled, go out with that publish.

Schedule only a new Collection item

Scheduled publishing is for a Collection item that should go live on its own, such as a blog post, an event, or a recipe. It is not a timer for the whole site, and it is not available on Starter or Basic Site plans.

Open the item and use the status dropdown in the top right. Choose Schedule, set the date and time, and click Schedule. The time is relative to the site's configured time zone. If Schedule is missing, the item is live now or was published in the past, so it cannot be scheduled.

For example: the November office hours post is still a draft. You schedule it for Tuesday at 9:00. Leave the item in Scheduled status. Do not also click Publish now, or you will skip the schedule and make it live immediately.

Write the final fields before you schedule. A scheduled item goes out as it stands at that time. If the cover image or the slug is still a placeholder, that placeholder is what visitors will get.

Set the site time zone first

The default time zone is UTC. A 9:00 schedule in UTC is not 9:00 in New York or London. Before you schedule anything a reader will see at a local hour, set the zone.

Go to Site settings, General, Localization. Choose Detect my time zone or pick a zone from the list. Save and publish. Webflow uses that zone for the schedule and for date and time fields in dynamic content. If you change the zone later, check items that are still waiting, because their clock is the site zone, not your laptop clock.

A site-wide publish will not release it early

This is the mistake that publishes the wrong post, or fails to publish the right one. Scheduled Collection items are not affected by a manual site-wide publish. When you publish the whole site, Webflow publishes Collection items that are queued, and items that are not explicitly scheduled. It leaves scheduled items waiting for their time.

If a post must go live with a design change, do not schedule it. Queue it for the next site publish, or publish the item now, then publish the site. If the post must stay hidden until Tuesday, leave it scheduled and publish the design without queuing that item.

Saving an edit is also separate from publishing. Draft changes are not pushed just because you published the site. Check the item status before you close the CMS.

Change or cancel the schedule

You can unschedule an item by saving it as a draft or by queuing it to publish. Queuing means it will go out with the next full-site publish, which may be sooner than the original date. A draft waits until you choose another action.

If the item is still scheduled and has not been published, open it, choose Save and reschedule, set the new date and time, and click Schedule. You cannot reschedule an item that has already gone live. After the scheduled time, the status becomes Published. Later edits follow the normal save and publish choices for a live item.

Check the item after the scheduled time

When the time arrives, open the public URL. Confirm the title, slug, image, and any list or card that should show the new item. If the item is still absent, check three things. The status may still say Scheduled because the time has not passed in the site zone. The plan may be Starter or Basic, which cannot schedule. Or a teammate may have moved it back to draft.

Collection page design is a different publish. Scheduling the item does not publish a template change you made in the Designer. If the new post uses a layout that has never been published, publish the site design before the scheduled time so the item has a live template to appear in.

Questions & answers

Why is Schedule missing from the status menu?

The item is published now, or it was published before. Webflow only schedules Collection items that have never been published. Save updates to a live item as a draft or queue them for the next site publish instead.

Can I schedule a whole page instead of a CMS item?

No. Single-page publishing cannot be scheduled. Scheduled publishing applies to new Collection items. A page design still needs a manual publish.

What if the post appears an hour early or late?

Check Site settings, General, Localization. The default time zone is UTC until you choose another zone or use Detect my time zone, then save and publish.

How do I stop a scheduled item before it goes live?

Save it as a draft or queue it for publish. If it has not gone live yet, you can also choose Save and reschedule and pick a new date and time.
